Seminar On Basics Of Demography

The ART in collaboration with United Nations Populations Fund -UNFPA, in the framework of its “Capacity Building of Priests on International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) issues” project, held a workshop on the basics of demography and development for the twenty clergy of Armenian Apostolic and Armenian Catholic Churches.
The goal of the project is to increase the awareness of Armenian priests around issues of ICPD, to promote involvement in combating Gender-Based Violence, and to influence attitudes and behavior of youth regarding sexual and reproductive health and rights, as well as to support the increased involvement of faith-based organizations in view of their role around ICPD related areas. The seminar aimed at increasing the knowledge of the priests on basic demographic postulates, ICPD and linkages between ICPD areas. The participants had two days sessions in the theoretical perspectives of demography and development, and during the last day worked in groups and elaborated two project proposals and action plans related to sustaining to young families in the rural areas and reduction of the number of abortions. It was the first seminar of the series of capacity building activities for clergy of Armenian Churches on ICPD issues.
