Regional Peace Was Discussed at YSU
International conference “Iran-Armenia-Georgia: visions for peaceful neighborhood and development” kicked off at YSU.
The goal of this conference, organized by YSU Faculty of International Relations, Armenian Inter-Church Charitable Round Table Foundation of the World Council of Churches and the NGO “Armenian Association for Peace and Conflict Studies”, is to discuss regional issues and their impact on foreign policy, as well as enhance political, economic and cultural ties between neighboring countries.
Dean of the faculty Gegham Petrosyan welcomed the guests and emphasized that the conference will help to develop a vision for the future development of the three countries and to summarize the achievements in the last quarter of the century.
“I am sure that this conference will find its place in the annals of ancient history and culture of the peoples of the region. People who today look to the future with confidence in their eyes,” — said the Dean.
Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesman Tigran Balayan also highlighted the organization of similar events and focused on the fact that 100% of the external trade of Armenia is made using the territories of Georgia and Iran. It itself shows the fact that the relations with these countries are very important for our state.
Counselor on Cultural Affairs of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran Majid Meshki made a speech. He focused on the approaches of the prophet of Islam and religious leaders in the area of peaceful coexistence in civil society.
Reports were also made by the representatives of the faculties of International Relations and Oriental Studies, NAS RA Institute of Oriental Studies, Yerevan State University of Languages and Social Studies, Tbilisi State University, SCIRS, as well as “Integration and Development” and “Peace and Reintegration” regional NGOs.
