IV Eastern Europe and Central Asia HIV/AIDS Conference

On 12-13th of May, 2014, the IV Eastern Europe and Central Asia HIV/AIDS Conference took place in Moscow, organized by the Federal Service on Customers’ rights protection and human well-being surveillance jointly with UNAIDS. More than 40 countries were represented at the conference. The plenary sessions and the discussions arranged in different conference halls in parallel, discussed the latest breakthroughs in medical research on HIV/AIDS, social issues connected to the disease and social programmes aimed at the latter, particularly stressing on the peculiarities determined by the socio-economic context of the countries in the regions.
A special session was dedicated to the work of religious organizations in this sphere. Presentations covered their experience, challenges and insights and innovative approaches applied to the projects aimed at prevention of HIV epidemic and work with HIV-positive people. The Round Table representative introduced the Foundation’s activities aimed at prevention of HIV, fighting stigma and discrimination, and providing comprehensive moral-psychological, social and humanitarian support to people living with HIV and their families – activities that are carried out in Yerevan and three regions of Armenia, with direct involvement of clergy of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
