Conference in Mother See of H.Etchmiadzin titled Health and Armenian Apostolic Church
The Social Doctrines Department of the Mother See of H.Etchmiadzin has initiated series of discussions on various topics of public value inviting input of the experts and representatives of the respective fields of public and societal life in elaboration of the social Doctrine of the Church. In this framework, a conference was organized in May 12-13, 2014 dedicated to the current topics and challenges in the spheres of education, science, and culture. Next conference discussing issues of family and the Church was carried out on September 12th and among other challenges it particularly emphasized on the topics of family planning and sex-selective abortions.
The theme of the two-day conference that took place on September 29th and 30th was health and healthcare. Participants to the conference were representing the Armenian Apostolic Church, RA Ministry of Health, local and international organizations working in the field of healthcare, as well as individual experts and researchers. The conference had five thematic focuses – RA healthcare system and its strategy of development; healthcare funding in the RA; quality and accessibility of healthcare services; maintenance of health of women, children and adolescents; mental health and disabilities; bioethics and Christian theology.
During the two days, twenty presentations were made on the topics of accessibility and quality of healthcare in Armenia, on the situation with medical education, reforms in the field of providing mental healthcare, procedures and problems with supplying medicine to the country, and other specific topics in the scope of the above-mentioned thematic focus. The conference was supported by the Armenia Round Table Foundation, UNFPA Armenian Representative Office, World Vision Armenia, and Jinishian Memorial Foundation.
