Church And Education Discussion
A follow up meeting of August 22, 2008 within the series of discussions around “Church and Education” theme was held by Armenia Round Table on October 15, 2008 in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin with the participation of heads and representatives from Centre for Christian Education, Information Services Department and “Etchmiadzin” Official Monthly of the Holy See, National Assembly of Republic of Armenia, National Academy of Sciences, Armenian Branch of DVV International and Ameria Bank.
Very Rev. Fr. Vardan Navasardyan, Head of the Centre for Christian Education of the Holy See made a presentation on “Main issues of Christian education in educational system in Armenia.” Rev. Vardan introduced Center’s activities in pre-school and public school educational systems, outlined Center’s achievements and pointed out issues in teaching of the subject “History of the Armenian Church” in public schools in Armenia. Given the increasing interest and demand on the part of society for Church involvement in education and church history subject teaching, Fr. Vardan emphasized the importance of partnership between the Church and state in educational discussions and joint activities.
Taking the chance of the meeting, the ART introduced “Right to Confession” manual published by the “Association of Judges of the Republic of Armenia” NGO with the financial support of the ART. The manual is meant for wider public use. In a comprehensive way it presents constitutional norms, international and local legislative acts regarding religion, right to confession, the Church in Armenia, international ecumenical organizations as well as participation of the Armenian Apostolic Church in the ecumenical movement, etc.
