Awareness-Raising Training On HIV/AIDS

In the framework of ART HIV/AIDS prevention project, a number of awareness raising events on HIV/AIDS have been accomplished by clergy of Armenian Apostolic Church in various regions of Armenia in collaboration with the trainer of "Real World, Real People" (RWRP) NGO. On March 19, 2010 a workshop on HIV/AIDS was held in the Department of Theology of Yerevan State University for the students of different departments.
The clergy of Araratyan Pontifical Diocese — Fr. Grigor Grigoryan, the clergy of Aragatsotn Diocese — Fr. Ghevond Gapoyan, and the trainer of “Real World, Real People” NGO — Christine Movsisyan- who are working with people living with HIV introduced the medical, psychological and other aspects of HIV/AIDS to the students, as well as presented the problems faced by people living with HIV (PLHIV), such as stigma and discrimination and the current situation related to HIV/AIDS in Armenia and in the world.
A movie on HIV/AIDS was screened followed by a discussion among students and trainers. The aim of the trainings is to inform young people on HIV/AIDS and the problems faced by PLHIV, to break the existing stereotypes and discrimination. Similar workshops have been held in the Yerevan State Linguistic University and other Universities of Armenia.
