A Round-Table Discussion On The Subject Of “Armenian Church History”
His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians and Mr. Armen Ashotyan, the Minister of Education and Science of RoA chaired a round table discussion dedicated to achievements and issues related to teaching subject of Armenian Church History in secondary schools of Republic of Armenia. The event took place in Mesrop Mashtots Seminary in Oshakan, on February 18, 2012.
The meeting was attended by clergy, representatives of governmental agencies working on educational issues, public schools and non-governmental organizations.
His Holiness Karekin II in his welcome address prioritized teaching the Armenian Church History subject in secondary schools, particularly mentioning that awareness and knowledge on faith must become an integral part of lives, strengthen Armenian Christian identity and values. His Holiness thanked the participants of the discussion and blessed all those engaged in educating the younger generations and contributing to building the moral base of Armenian society.
Mr. Armen Ashotyan, Minister of Education and Science, welcomed participants of the discussion and highlighted on the role of the Armenian Church in preserving national identity, fostering spiritual and cultural development of Armenians.
Reverend Father Vardan Navasardian, Director of the Christian Education Center and staff of the Center introduced the history and progress of the subject Armenian Church History in public schools of Armenia. A discussion on issues, challenges and perspectives of the subject teaching followed. Constructive ideas and suggestions were recorded and will be shared with the Ministry of Education and Science for consideration and follow up.
The event was organized by the Center for Christian Education of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin with the support of the Armenia Round Table.
