Fourteen priests and deacons of the Armenian Church acquired new skills by participating in a lecture on “Trauma as a Cause and Consequence of Domestic Violence, Mechanisms of Psychological Support.” The event was organized through collaboration between the WCC Armenia Round Table Foundation and the UNFPA Armenia.<\/p>\n

The lecture was conducted by psychologist David Gevorgyan, who addressed psychological trauma and its manifestations, the essence of traumatized families and psychological support, as well as methods of psychological counseling. Participants examined the manifestations of domestic violence arising from trauma and mechanisms to combat it.<\/p>\n

“War and subsequent displacement are extraordinary situations, the impact of which on both individuals and families is often psycho-traumatic in nature. As a consequence, we often encounter such harmful phenomena as inadequate parenting, an increase in domestic violence, and the choice of ineffective communication forms between family members, particularly in interactions with children. Therefore, families who have undergone such psycho-traumatic experiences often need competent psychological consultation, which, combined with spiritual support, can significantly improve the emotional state of individuals and families,” said David Gevorgyan.<\/p>\n

The focus of the collaboration between the Armenian Round Table Foundation and UNFPA is organizing lectures and courses on such topics for priests and social sector representatives. This contributes to their targeted work on promoting gender equality and preventing domestic violence in the course of their activities.<\/p>\n

The “Awareness raising: steps towards Family well-being” project is implemented within the framework of the second phase of the \u201cEU 4 Gender Equality: Together against gender stereotypes and gender-based violence” programme (phase 2), funded by the European Union, implemented jointly by UN Women and UNFPA, in collaboration with the World Council of Churches Armenia Round Table Foundation.
