Computer Literacy For Everyone

In May, 2009 the ART launches a new project titled “Computer Literacy for Everyone” as the logical continuation of the previous “Sustainable Development of Computer Centers” project. The primary objective of which is to do away with computer illiteracy in Armenia and to achieve sustainable development of CCs established by ART. The project is funded by Diakonisches Werk der EKD, Germany. Four computer centers were selected and participated in the workshop on May 19, 2009. Besides the selected ones, four more centers were involved in the project.
The specific objective of the project is to promote the sustainable development of vulnerable community based groups and teach them computer basic course and what is the most important to integrate the Information Computer Technology (ICT) into society by:
a) raising the learners’ capacity level — teach computer literacy the society and stimulate capacity building for trainers; create conditions for CCs accurately planned and purposeful functioning; advanced, vocational trainings for the site staff (capacity building) and the trainees as well; develop & enhance the quality of computer trainings;
b) involving communities into CC based activities; enable people to participate in decision-making processes, research and education by integrating ICT into civil society and strengthening them by realizing the formation of a necessary number of computer course groups; create and implement educational/ promotional /informative /community based projects by promoting education and teaching the society computer literacy;
c) increasing self-sustainability of CCs through community related activities and set up conditions for the project to be continued – create working, stable and developed Internet CCs working in education field and with communities.
Therefore, contribution of ICT into society will enhance computer literacy level of learnes — communities will have educated, informed members that will bring their useful contribution to their community.
