ACT Alliance at UNFCCC COP 18 .
7 billion. 1 challenge.

UNFCCC COP18 (18th Conference of Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change) took place in Doha, Qatar, in November-December 2012.  Advisory Group on Climate Change Advocacy (AGCCA) of ACT Alliance actively participated in it trying to influence delegations of their respective countries in issues related to Kyoto protocol, climate finance, long term cooperative action, etc. ACT Alliance considers climate change to be a serious challenge for the future of mankind, especially for development of poor countries.
UNFCCC COPs take place annually to discuss various aspects related to the Convention.  In COP18 more than 14 000 people were presenting governmental delegations of countries, non-governmental sector and international media.  ACT Alliance was represented by its members throughout the world, including Karine Baghdasaryan from Armenia Round Table.  Mr. Pan-Gi Moon, UN General Secretary, Sheikhs of Qatar and Kuwait honored the meeting with their presence.
ACT engagement in COP18 was useful as delegations listened to our input.  Increasing role and effect of ACT in these talks was noted, as well as continuous contacts with government delegations. Each and everyone in the Advisory Group had a clear agenda for the day, and findings/results were shared daily during afternoon meetings and circulated via mail.
We had three ACT press releases, a number of tweets, and a few web-site updates. “Time for climate justice” campaign team organized several successful events, which created media attention.  Interesting was a wedding of COP18 with Science.
Contacts were established with the Armenian delegation represented by Mrs. Diana Harutyunyan from UNDP Climate Change Unit, Mr. Simon Papyan, RoA Deputy Minster of Nature Protection and Mr. Aram Gabrielyan, UNFCCC National Focal Point.
