Improving Livelihoods of Syrian Refugees in Armenia

On June 30, 2015 Armenia Round Table Foundation launched a German Foundation “Kirche in Not” funded project in the Art House training Center in Yerevan. ART, in close collaboration with “Aleppo” NGO initiated training courses of Hairdressers / Make-Up / Stylists; Cooks /Table Design, as well as Sewing and Modeling professional qualification for Syrian refugees in Armenia.

Representatives of ART, “Aleppo” NGO and Art House training center, as well as the trainers welcomed 50 Syrian refugees, announcing the project launch. They were introduced the aim of the initiation, mentioning the importance of learning crafts, as employment opportunities remain a big issue especially for women in Armenia. This workforce development initiative is to contribute to the improvement of livelihoods and promote the integration of refugees in Armenia through betterment of socioeconomic conditions of the refugee families providing them dignified lives. The training courses will be organized for the selected groups of Syrian refugees, particularly women who were not used to work in Syria.

The proposed project will contribute to reducing vulnerability of the most helpless and affected refugee families and to the recovery and resilience of those people.

The other important objective of the project is the continuous support by the priest and experienced psychologist to the affected refugees. Psycho-social support activities will be continued in the “Aleppo” NGO facilitating the process of refugees’ psychological adaptation and smoother integration to the new community.
Psychosocial meetings are being organized on weekly basis.
