Syrian refugee graduation ceremony of IT programming courses
On September 4 Armenia Round Table Foundation and the Centre for Continuing Education of National Polytechnic University of Armenia organized the graduation ceremony for the trainees of a six month course in programming and web-design. The trainings were organized within the scope of the “Workforce development initiative” project implemented by Armenia Round Table Foundation with the financial support of the Norwegian Church Aid in an effort to improve livelihood and employment opportunities of Syrian refugees in Armenia.

The event brought together representatives of international, local organizations and businesses who may become potential employers of the graduates. The ceremony started with the welcoming address by the University rector Mr Vostanik Maroukhyan and the Executive director of Armenia Round Table Foundation Dr Karen Nazaryan. The director of the Center of Continuing Education Mr Arthur Zaprossian and the professors spoke about all the steps they went together with the students during the six months’ period. They also presented main challenges and successes, results and outcomes of the project, shared the best practices of the students and talked about the cooperation of the implementing organizations.

Out of twenty one students who successfully completed the course of C++, Web Design and Programming, seven have already secured employment. The rest will enter the labor market equipped with good starting skills in one of the most demanding professions not only in Armenia, but worldwide.
