Reference Group on Ecumenical Diakonia met in Ecumenical Centre in Geneva
During February 8-10, 2017, specialists from India, Madagascar, South Africa, Switzerland, Cuba, Finland, Germany, Norway and Armenia, representing different ecumenical diaconal organizations, gathered to discuss current stage of ecumenical diakonia and its perspectives. Dr. Karen Nazaryan, Executive Director of WCC Armenia Round Table Foundation, represented Armenia at the meeting. Main basis of discussion was paper prepared by leading specialist in diakoina Professor Dr. Kjell Norstrokke. Discussion included history of ecumenical diakoina, current status as a part of polycentric ecumenical movement, theological reflections, changing landscape of diaconal action, diaconal practice, contemporary challenges and opportunities. Finally, participants agreed on steps to the way forward. After certain editorial work the paper will be sent to WCC and ACT governing bodies for future propagation.
